About Us
The Museum opened its doors in 2010 after fifteen years of planning and fundraising. Funded primarily by local donations, the Museum was built on land donated by the heirs of Joe Benton, an early pillar of the community. The Museum houses hundreds of Native American artifacts from a number of county collectors, with our very first collection donated by Gene Wilson. Our premier exhibit is the leather artistry of Dell Motley, a long time local resident important in the leather goods manufacturing industry. In addition to temporary exhibits which are continually rotated throughout the year, the Museum focuses on five separate topics which are instrumental to the history of this area:
Mission Statement: The North Texas Society of History and Culture believes that the legacy of the past enhances and enriches the lives of current and future generations. We strive to preserve and interpret our history through exhibits, programs, and archives that will evoke an appreciation of our shared heritage, inspire a vision for our future, and protect the memories of our past.
